Oh the sweet nostalgia of a skating ring. On a Saturday in November our Girl Scout service unit had a skating party and I was so, so excited. I still have my roller skates I got back in oh, 7th or 8th grade. Yes, they still fit if not a little tight. Most of my childhood was spent inside Bob-a-Lu skating rink in Dothan, Alabama. It is now closed but that building hold so many memories of friendships, love and life lessons. So anytime I have the chance to lace up my skates I feel young and like I can move in ways my body really doesn't want to move anymore. Regardless, we all had a fun afternoon of games, limbo, and at the end (after we removed our skates) we all did the Cha Cha Slide and the Cupid Shuffle.
I did forget how rough children can be on your back when you are teaching them to skate. Quite a few of my girls had never skated before. I was sore for a few days after too. Probably from helping the girls. Yea, that's what I'm going with. It has nothing to do with the fact that I hadn't skated in over a year.
One thing I have come to realize I love about being a Girl Scout leader is that I get to do things I did and didn't do as a child. I never did Girl Scouts or camped or sold cookies so doing this has helped me relive part of my childhood.
